Lori's cute tutorial

I love this butterfly quilt!  Lori Holt from "Bee in my Bonnet" just posted a cute tutorial on her blog.  She links up to several others that have done it in other colors.  So cute, I have to add this to my to do list!  Lori's first line of fabric should be out soon, it is called "Sew Cherry" by Riley Blake Designs and we can't wait for it to arrive.  Yes, we have ours on order!   I have first call on it at the shop for a project with it!  Maybe we will do a giveaway for some when it hits the stores!
Stay Tuned!

Sizzix Club

Last Thursday was the first event of this years Sizzix club. We made embroidery hoop banners that you can switch out the letters with each holiday. It was a great time. The shop's littlest employee also was there doing quality control on the fabric.

The sizzix club meets once a month at the shop, included in the fee is the use of the die cuts in the backroom.  You can also purchase machines and die cuts through the shop. Call and ask the girls for more details.

Freespirit's new line "Kumari Garden" by Dena Fishbein is one of those lines that appeals to all.  It's happy, bright and fun!  My friend Chris used it to make my computer bag and I love it!  Don't wait too long, its going really fast.  Which is your favorite colorway?

zipper flower tutorial

Zipper flowers

This tutorial will teach you how to make two different kinds of flowers. I combine them into one at the end.

Supplies

3 inch zipper pieces 10 total

12 inch zipper

1 ½ inch felt circle

Hot glue gun

Cut out your felt circle. I used the Sizzix circles #2 die.

Fold your 3 inch zipper pieces in half and sew.

Attach these to the circle. I sewed them on but you can hot glue them too

Gather your 12 inch zipper using your preferred gathering method. It will spiral as you gather. I gathered all the way and then adjusted my spiral to my liking.

Attach to the center of the folded petals

Embellish the center of the spiral

Attach clip, pin, or other device.

If you want only folded petals, just cut, sew and attach more petals in layers. Than embellish the center as desired

If you only want a spiral flower use a longer zipper and gather until you have the desired size you want.

If you need a good gathering method, there is a gathering tutorial that we did in December.

Happy Valentines Day!

Now that my kids are grown I  miss the making of the Valentines boxes so much!  Going to the store to pick out Shelby and Parkers favorite box of Valentines to give to their friends that year.  Then picking the treat that they were going to attach to the Valentine.  Parkers was alway some super hero and Shelby could vary from my little pony to In Sync. So my friends  I just want to say I hope your Valentines Day is full of love and happiness!!

Thanks Chris

Geek Chic pattern cover
this is mine, the bag and the I Pad cover.  I tried a new picture program  not the best!
I am so excited to tell you this! One of my BFF's Chris and the Tuesday Tutorial girl wonder made me this bag by Melly and Me "Geek Chic" we have the pattern on order and it should be here next week.  I got an I Pad for Christmas and have been looking for a bag to put it in.  Isn't it cute?  Love you Chris!  Yesterday when she came by my house I thought she was just leaving her adorable baby Aidan for me and Shelby to play with.  The kid has his own fan club at Material Girls (look out Justin Bieber we have Aidan fever!)  Anywho, just thought I would show off my really cute bag.  The fabric she used is Kumari Gardens by Free Spirit.  It is a fantastic line.  Okay so I am off to put my I Pad in my really cool case!

Bathroom Cabinet Refinishing, Seriously?

This is how I finished it the new countertop still needs to be installed.
Boring! Old cabinet
I am not sure what kind of wild hair I have had lately, but, it has kept me busy.  I have been absent from the shop a lot, and people are starting to wonder?  question my absenteeism.  So I figured I better come clean and tell you what I have been doing.  My house has needed a makeover and I decided to get busy and do it.  First off let me explain, my darling hubby hates to do it himself, we hire everything out and I mean everything.  Which has been hard for me because my dad could fix anything!  Well, the bathrooms were first on my agenda.  So I trot over to Home Depot and yea, I think I like that vanity and counter.  I get home and decide "you know I bet I could paint that"  Of course my hubby says "No, don't paint it honey you don't have time lets just buy  a new one.  So, he goes out with Parker somewhere and I think, I can paint that!  After a lot of sanding, swearing and thinking oh crap I ruined it.  I will post picture of it completly finished sometime soon.  But,  I'll be back to my old self at the shop tomorrow!!  Let me know if you would like me to post a tutorial for this.

fabric decor balls tutorial

Fabric Decor Balls

1 jelly roll or honey bun

Styrofoam balls. Any size.

Hot glue gun

Cut strips in half so they are 1 ¼ inch.

Squirt Glue onto the ball and attach one narrow end of a jelly strip.

Wrap strip around tightly.

Glue strip onto the top of the beginning piece. Cut excess fabric.

With the next strip move to the side so your strips are over lapping just a little.

Continue this process until ball is covered. I used three fabrics and alternated them as I went around
I used a tack to hold my fabirc in place until the glue was completely dry.

The smaller the ball the narrower the strip you will want. This is written for the tennis ball size.
