I am technology challenged!

Okay, so my family got sick of me being behind the times and bought me for Christmas: a Blackberry Storm phone, a camera ( Nikon coolpix, I think I might have said I wanted this because Aston Kutcher does the ad) and a pink ipod. Now all of these are fantastic gifts but I am clueless, maybe unteachable when it comes to electronic gadgets. So one of my New Years resolutions, is to learn how to work these. (my friend Christy has taken me on as a charity case, and has willingly volunteered to help) she may be in for a big surprise! So, watch out for my pictures to show up soon!
Toodles!

Block of The Month #2

Okay, I'm probably going to shock all of you but here is block #2 for the apron quilt. Done, complete, by little old me! Wow! my arm is getting tired just from patting myself on the back! This is a really fun quilt designed by Bee in my Bonnet Lori Holt. I am already planning block #3, (I had to call Lori, and ask her if I could start it, I think she might still be holding the phone with her mouth wide open in complete shock!) Call me at the shop if you are interested in this pattern. Stay tuned for more complete projects!

I'm finished Christmas Shopping! Wahoo!!!

I am done, yea! I just have to wrap and put under the tree. I left the shop early and was determined to finish tonight. I got home in plenty of time to wrap but guess what! I did block 2 of my apron quilt, made some yo-yo's and here I sit writing about it. Gosh, I amaze myself sometimes, I must call Lori and ask her what block 3 is. Look out girls I am on a roll.....

Is it really going to be 2009

Well, I am starting to set those dreaded New Years goals! ugh! yea! you know the ones. So, last night me and my cute hubby headed out to Franklin Covey to buy me a new planner. For those of you who know me I tend to be rather DISORGANIZED, (I know where things are but those around me tend to find it chaotic!) sheesh! So will see if old Franklin really does help ( I don't know, I might be the Franklin Covey challenged!)

Brrrr! it's cold

It snowed all day here on the Wasatch Front and BRRRR! its cold! and I love it! I don't have to drive far to work so its not a bad commute but for those of you who have to drive I'm sorry, (but how is Santa supposed to land his sleigh without snow?) So I am making this a short post but where ever you might live be it sunny or snowy I wish you a Happy Safe Holiday!

Donate if you can

I have come home early every night from the shop this week, ( something I don't usually do) and I have sat and watched the local news (depressing I know!) and have been so concerned about the local charities~ Utah Food Bank and Toys for Tots ( they are in need of toys for kids they really need 12 to 15 year old items) I know times are tough right now but if you have any extra please donate to your local charities. We are still taking food donations for the local food bank if you need to drop off any items. Thanks so much!!

Teenagers

Oh boy was I wrong! I thought once my kids were of a certain age it would be so much easier, but.... I am learning each age just brings a new set of challenges. Shelby my senior in HS. (who is a really great kid. ) got her first ticket last week for coasting through a Stop sign. (right after her dad and I told her there was a Stop sign at the corner of our street for a reason) Well, tonight we got the dreaded phone call...Dad, I got in a wreck...someone just hit me. We rushed out of the house (me wearing Tom's shoes) and down the street (no one was hurt, thankfully) but it is the worst feeling in the world. I hope no one ever gets that dreaded phone call. May all of you be safe this Holiday Season!

PS Shelby insisted that I post this~it wasn't her fault!

Worse time to get sick.....

Oh my gosh is time just whizzing by or what? I don't know about the rest of you but I am slightly behind. I still have gifts to buy and wrap and no, I didn't get my tree up. We just refinished our hardwood floors and can't put anything on them till today, but.... I spent the evening at the Insta-Care with a diagnosis of Bronchitis, yes that is a bummer! I swear every year at this time I either end up with pnuemonia or bronchitis, yuck!!!! So all of you need to run out and get your Airbourne, take your vitamins and get plenty of rest!!!

This month is zooming right on by me and I am way behind, which is par for the course. So for those of you who don't get snow, rumor has it we Utahns are going to be buried in it. The Ping Pong Challange

Christmas came a little early this year, Tom and I bought the kids a ping- pong table for Christmas, Parker said that all his friends were awesome players and could beat Tom. So...Tom being the adult that he is had to set the table up early, go out and buy an expensive "sand paddle" and start the challenge.... I now have about ten 15 yr olds and one very winded old man, (but so far Tom is the master.) Shelby and her friends will be here soon, they all are coming to challenge the winner. I suppose its time to put the yo-yo's down and show them my quilting ping-pong arm....
Game on!

Bundt Cake???

We have a 30's club at the shop and for the month of Nov. we decided to exchange aprons, bread and a recipe. Well of course I waited till the last minute and made my apron the night before (it turned out cute) and panicked because the only bread I ever make is Rhodes rise and bake, and of course I couldn't take that. So being the creative girl I am I ran over to Nothing but Bundt Cakes over in Sandy. Girls! Let me tell you, cute shop and every flavor of bundt cake you can imagine!!! Any way for the month of December we are exchanging yo-yo's and I have gone nuts!! We are using the large yo-yo maker from Clover. Its so much fun! I will post a picture as soon as Shelby gets her camera from school.

3 teenage boys!!!

I left the shop early tonight..., something I don't do near often enough. I decided I needed to go to the mall, (yea I know I'm nuts,) anyway I told my son Parker he should go with me and he agreed if I would take his friends (2 more 15 year olds) I'm not sure if any of you have teenage boys but, oh my gosh they make me laugh. I tried to put my arm around Parker and he told me I can only do that at home. Then we (tom and I) took them to Red Robin where they polished off chocolate shakes, ginormous burgers, french fries, and an appetizer!! All is right in my world!! I hope you all have these make you smile moments this Holiday Season!!

What can I say ....honored !!! Sandi Henderson and her cute family stopped in at Material Girls on Saturday afternoon. I was so excited that I yelled out that we had a "celebrity" in the store. It was so nice that she would take time out of her family vacation to come see our shop. She was carrying one of her new purse patterns which Jeanine is now chomping at the bit to make for the shop :) We told her that Ginger Blossom sold out much too quick and that we are anxiously awaiting Farmer's Market.

My first comment on my blog

I'm so excited I got my first response to my blog. So to Laurie thanks so much! We just received the Moda line Simplicity and let me tell you it is fantastic, I have to make something in this line for sure. When you visit the shop it's starting to feel like spring, and then you walk out in to the snow and start to think maybe a flannel quilt would be better. Well until next time have a great day and SMILE!!

Spring is coming!

Spring is coming, I can feel it or at least I think I do. It has snowed so much here in Utah this Winter that I have to believe with all the new fabrics that look like Spring it has to be right around the corner. We have some great lines and they arrive almost on a daily basis. It's so exciting!! We had our first Material Girls late sew on Friday night and it was fun I even started a new quilt from Bloom Creek that is going to be fantastic in the 30's. We had a good turnout but have lots of room for more so make sure and mark your calenders for the 3rd Saturday of every month and come join us. I also finished and sent it off to be quilted one of Cotton Ways new tabletopper of the month patterns I made it out of the swell line in greens its pretty cute!! plus I finished which is not often. Also we still have room in our learn to needleturn applique class with Barbara Jones from Quilt Soup, she is such a great teacher so be sure and check out that class.
I could go on and on but I'll wait until next time.
