Modern Quilting

Come fly with me by Abbey Lane Quilts
With all the hype on the "Modern Quilting" and solid fabrics.   I thought I would show you a couple of the models we have up at the shop.  I am not going to lie,  it took me a while to jump on the solid bandwagon.  I just always wanted that print to go with the solid, but after much persuasion from the girls at the shop, I am finally able to do an entire quilt in solids.  We have a huge selection at the shop, in a rainbow of colors, that are sure to entice you for your next project.

Well, I am not quite as far along as I had hoped to be but I am loving the "Scrappy Trip Along"   You can check out all the pictures on flickr or on some of the blogs out there.  I am loving Camilles from Thimble Blossom but then again I love every thing she does.  I am not sure how big I am going to make mine but I have a ways to go either way.    If you haven't started yet you should.  It is a great way to use up scraps!!  I will keep you updated on my progress.  If you are doing it please share with us!!
Stay tuned for Material Girls Quilt along!!

Sewist Tools

I don't know about you but, while cleaning up my sewing areas I discovered an ABUNDANCE of scissors and seam rippers. I have 8 inch shears, 6 inch shears and little embroidery scissors by the dozens.   Every drawer, box or bag I opened had a seam ripper.  I know that seam rippers get dull, especially if you use them as often as I do!!  I couldn't bring myself to throw any away (yet)  Hoarder?! Maybe?  As we move into Spring I have lots of things to sew, I am sure I will discover then which ones need to go to seam ripper heaven.  Next time Brian the scissor guy is at the shop, I am sure I can keep him busy!!  He already wonders what I do to get my scissors so beat up, now he is going to know I hoard sharp things!  What tool do you buy a lot of?  Thread, scissors, seam rippers...,  Please share with me what is your tool of choice to hoard!!

Scrappy Trip Quilt Along!!

Have you heard about all the "Scrappy Trip Quilt Alongs" going on in blogland?  Well, if you haven't then let me share.  Pretty much anyone and everyone is doing this just hop over to your favorite bloggers I am sure they are doing it.  I had myself convinced that I didn't need to do this and to just focus on starting the New Year and all my other commitments.  Then Shelby started carrying on about about it and would not stop!  Dang that child of mine!!  Next thing I know I have my stack of fabrics picked out and so have several others at the shop and here we go!!  The link above has a tutorial and more info on the quilt along.  I'll be posting pictures of Shelby and I's blocks.  Come join in, it will be fun!!

Subway Art Embroidery

Last year I went a little crazy on the Subway Art's.  I couldn't get enough of them.   I had created several for different occasions and really never got around to doing anything other than printing them off.  So, this year I have decided to release them as embroidery patterns.  Our first one to be coming out is our Valentines Day one.  The pattern will be available this Friday (possibly sooner) so call the shop to order yours or check our website.  We will have them kitted and ready to go for you.  They stitch up really quick and look darling in a frame or a pillow.

FYI

Wow, I can't believe it is the 6th of January and I am just getting around to posting.  It seems like the shop and my family have all be  hit by the nasty flu that is going around.  Trust me when I tell you, you do not want the stomach bug that is going around.  We have had several visits to the emergency room but all seem to be on the mend.  So, now for the good stuff!!  We have been busy planning our class schedule  which we will be revealing at our "Open House"  date to be announced soon.  We tried to end our year lean with inventory and are in the process bulking it back up.  Look for new lines and things to arrived daily and I will be having show and tell here and on our Facebook page.  We also want to invite all of you out to our "Modern Quilt Guild" meetings.  We meet at the shop the 3rd Tuesday of every month and have planned some quilt alongs, swaps and some surprise visits from some superstar fabric designers, quilters and bloggers.  We are looking forward to a really exciting year this year.  Check back often to see what is happening!!
